Since 1977, La Crosse County Housing Authority (LCHA) has been providing rental units for both seniors and families with limited incomes. In 140 senior apartments and 54 family apartments (duplexes), rents are based on adjusted gross income. Twenty-six senior and twenty-four family units are at an established rental rate. Our units are located in Holmen, Onalaska, West Salem, Bangor, Mindoro and on French Island. The first step for those interested in seeking housing with LCHA is the completion of an application. The application can be downloaded from this site, mailed to you, or picked up at our offices. The La Crosse County Housing Authority offices are located in War-Leh Manor on French Island. Our staff consists of an Executive Director, Property Manager, Administrative Accountant, Accountant, Occupancy Specialist, Receptionist, and three Custodians. Originating by a resolution of the La Crosse County Board of Commissioners, the La Crosse County Housing Authority (LCHA) was formally recognized as its own legal entity in 1972. Our five member volunteer board from surrounding communities, appointed by the County Board, provides direction and over-sight of our policies and services. Our Maintenance staff is on duty from 7 AM to 3 PM Monday thru Friday and is on call for emergencies evenings and weekends. Security Deposit: A Security deposit is required at the time of move in equal to one month's rent. There is a $10 key deposit per apartment key. Rents and utilities should not exceed 30% of adjusted income. Rents are adjusted at least annually. Resident Selection Criteria
Income eligibility and number of bedrooms are listed below: Note that there must be medical evidence that a family of two persons (other than parent and child) require two bedrooms or a family of three persons with only one child require a third bedroom. Some programs may have more restrictive income limits.

Applicants will be notified by letter of acceptance or rejection of application. If rejected, applicants may reapply when the item causing rejection has been resolved. Successful applicants will be placed on the waiting list according to the date that all the above requirements have been met. |
