Senior Living at Whispering Pines
History
Whispering Pines I opened in December of 1999 with the completion of 16 one-bedroom apartments for age 50 and better. Whispering Pines I is solely owned by the La Crosse County Housing Authority (LCHA).
Whispering Pines II opened in April 2001, with 10 two-bedroom units. Residency is limited to seniors 50 years or older. Whispering Pines II is a joint venture of LCHA and the Couleecap, Inc.
About
Designed for independent living, each home has a kitchen with refrigerator and range, living room, bathroom, walk-in storage and one or two bedrooms. Community facilities include laundries, a beauty salon, community dining room, living room and a library with fireplace. Off street parking is provided.
Funding for Whispering Pines is obtained solely through resident rents. These funds are governed under the watchful oversight of the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) and Division of Housing (DOH).
Whispering Pines I
Whispering Pines I has 16 one-bedroom units. Each unit has a roll-in, sit-down shower, a walk-in pantry and solid oak cabinetry in the kitchen. Community areas are located in the center of this section. There are front and back porches off the community areas. Apartments open off central hallways with front doors offset from hall with built in small benches by each front door. Electric heat is controlled independently in each unit. Residents must furnish their own air conditioners.
Rents are $536 per month and do not include utilities. A late fee of $10.00 is charged for rent not received by the fifth day of the month. Electronic Fund Transfers are accepted for rent payments. Leases are month to month with a 30-day notice to vacate required. Security deposits are equal to one month’s rent.
Whispering Pines II
Whispering Pines II has 10 two-bedroom units and a preference is given to 2 person households. Bathrooms have tubs with shower surrounds. Kitchen cabinetry is faced with white laminate. It is connected to Whispering Pines I via one of the WPI hallways. Apartments are off a central hallway, with front doors offset from hall. Gas heat and electricity are included in rent. Residents must furnish their own air conditioners.
Rents are $664/month, electricity and heat inclusive. A late fee of $10.00 is charged for rent not received by the fifth day of the month. Electronic Fund Transfers are accepted for rent payments. Lease periods are one year and a 30 day notice must be given if not renewing. Security deposits are equal to one month’s rent.
