Whispering Pines II (50+)
Whispering Pines I opened in December of 1999 with the completion of 16 one-bedroom apartments for age 50 and better. In April 2001, Whispering Pines II, with 10 two-bedroom units became available for occupancy. Residency is limited to seniors 50 years or older. WPI is solely owned by the La Crosse County Housing Authority (LCHA). WPII is a joint venture of LCHA and the Couleecap, Inc.
Designed for independent living, each home has a kitchen with refrigerator and range, living room, bathroom, walk-in storage and one or two bedrooms. Community facilities include laundries, a beauty salon, community dining room, living room and a library with fireplace. Off street parking is provided.Funding for Whispering Pines is obtained solely through resident rents. These funds are governed under the watchful oversight of the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) and Division of Housing (DOH).
Income limits:
- Whispering Pines I: 13 of the 16 units are reserved for individuals or couples at or below 60% of County Median Income (CMI).
- Whispering Pines II: 9 of the units are reserved for individuals or couples at or below 60% of County Median Income (CMI), and 1 unit is reserved for an individual or couple at or below 50% of CMI.
Rents are $645/month, electricity and heat inclusive. A late fee of $5.00 is charged for rent not received by the fifth day of the month. Electronic Fund Transfers are accepted for rent payments. Lease periods are one year and a 30 day notice must be given if not renewing. Security deposits are equal to one month’s rent.
